The Fraternal Order of Police, Federal Officers Coalition is in the process of collecting a list of Congressional representatives who have our support, which will be submitted to our national headquarters. The list will include all representatives who have been rated as pro-law enforcement by our membership. It will be published in our national newsletter, which is distributed throughout our organization, as well as to a variety of other federal, state, and local organizations. In light of this, our members need more information from you regarding your position on the Law Enforcement Officers Equity Act (HR 1073), which is our top legislative priority."

It's my understanding that you have been contacted regarding co-sponsorship of HR 1073, but for whatever reasons, have not chosen to support our position that all federal law enforcement officers should be covered by the same retirement system. We believe that the cost savings provided by eliminating the current turnover problems (training, recruiting costs, etc), which have so hindered our ability to keep experienced officers on board, more than justifies the passage of this bill. This is particularly true in light of the added threats presented to this country since the tragic terrorist attacks we have recently experienced.

Federal police officers who would be impacted by this bill, enforce the law, and share many of the same duties as those already covered by federal law enforcement retirement. We are trained at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, carry firearms, make arrests, are assaulted, and even slain in the line of duty.

While correcting this inequity is our top priority, we would hope that you would see it's merit as well, and choose to show your support by signing on as a co-sponsor.

Please provide us with your position on HR 1073 as soon as possible, so that we can finalize our list.
